Ever been stuck in a situation when you understand something but can’t explain it? For me, reading the four agreements was something like that. I understood what was being said. those page-fulls of text describing and defining the world the world we know in the context of the toltec did resonate with me. However, when asked what I was taking away, all I had to say was this: There are four things to do that will reduce stress and make life easier to live, as well as making you more proactive.
- Be impeccable with your word
- Don’t take anything personally
- Don’t make assumptions
- Always do your best
Basically, the four agreements was just a detailed analysis of the very first habit, Be Proactive.
Here’s the thing. I can’t think of anything else. As refreshing as the read was, it was just a retelling of things I had thought about years earlier. Thinking about it, it all made sense. But, that was pretty much it. Don Miguel Riz managed to write about the unspoken truths of life, yet keep them shrouded in the blanket of mystery once you were done reading.
And that is about it.
I might be doing some detailed post on the subtleties someday. I wonder if my blog will stay shrouded like that.
